Visiting The Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon is a very cool and beautiful place. A canyon is a very deep part in the rock. Sometimes there is a river. My mom says The Grand Canyon is one of the Wonders of the World. That means a special place to go see. I am so glad I got to see it!

The Grand Canyon is in Arizona. It is very colorful. They are many layers of rock. The layers look like stripes of many colors: yellow, orange, red, reddish orange, yellow orange, tan, and brown. What colors do you see?

The canyon is made up of layers on many colored rocks.

The Grand Canyon is very very big. At the bottom of the canyon is a river. The Colorado River goes through the Grand Canyon. It would be very cool to go on the river. You can take rafting trips on the river, but we didn’t.

We hiked partway down to the bottom with my friend, my mom‘s friend, my brother and my parents. We had to be very careful or we could fall. The path was right against the wall and a cliff that went straight down. Some of the path was muddy. Sometimes we went through rock tunnels. We hiked 1 mile down. But it is over 2 miles to hike to the bottom.

My favorite part was hiking down the path. It was easier to hike down then to hike back up. The path was very steep. I liked to look at the view of the Grand Canyon from the different places on the path. Did you know the Grand Canyon is 277 miles long? We only saw a small bit of it.
